Who can register a boat in Poland? What documents are required?
In Poland both individuals and companies can register a boat. Individuals: Polish citizens, as well as foreign nationals, can register a boat in Poland provided they meet the necessary requirements. Companies: Businesses, including those registered in Poland or other countries, can also register boats. The main Polish marine database has a name “Register of yachts and other watercraft of less than 24 m in length”.

Boat registration in Europe varies by country, as each nation has its own regulations and procedures. Here’s an overview of how boat registration works in a few specific European countries:
- United Kingdom: Authority: UK Ship Register (UKSR). Process: You can register your boat online or via post. You’ll need to provide proof of ownership, a bill of sale, and details of the vessel. None of our many UK clients have needed our assistance to register a houseboat in the UK.
- France: Authority: Affaires Maritimes. Process: You must apply for registration at your local port authority. You’ll need identification, proof of ownership, and proof of safety compliance. We have already registered a few our houseboats in France.
- Germany: Authority: Local Waterways Administration (Wasserbehörde). Process: Register at the local authority where the boat is primarily used. You need identification, proof of ownership, and insurance. Our clients registered dozen of our houseboats in Germany.
- Spain: Authority: Maritime Directorate (Capitanía Marítima). Process: Registration requires a visit to the local Capitanía Marítima with documents including proof of ownership, a tax identification number, and insurance. Our Spanish clients registered many of houseboats in Poland.
- Italy: Authority: Italian Coast Guard. Process: Registration is done through the local Coast Guard office. You will need documentation that proves ownership, a tax code, and safety compliance.
- Netherlands: Authority: Rijkswaterstaat. Process: You can register your boat online or in person. Required documents typically include proof of ownership, identification, and survey documents if applicable. None of our many Dutch clients have needed our help to register a houseboat in the Netherlands.
