Powerboat

Testing powerboat for sale is tough, but somebody’s gotta do it. mBoat’s crack test crew went to work. From dawn to dusk, we jumped waves, slammed throttles, and set off more than a few radar detectors along the nearby causeway. We feel that our fleet represents a good cross-section of some the finner powerboats on the water today. From inland lake boats to high-performance offshore racers, there’s something for everyone here.

The mBoat introduce a concept that legendary US powerboat architect L Francis Herreshoff worked so hard to develop in the 1920s in America and to a lesser extent, as did the Riva people in Italy — both were trying to create a unique craft that is simply designed to allow its owners the full joy and appreciation of being out on the water: where speed “across the ground” is irrelevant; where the whole purpose of the journey is to be on the water and surrounded by its beauty and tranquillity. Taking into account this knowledge we must visit Jeanneau offer of Merry Fisher and Cap Camarat and also Quicksilver powerboats.

New power boat performance counts

Peering beneath the glossy smooth gelcoat for which our powerboats are famous (displacement hull and planing hull), you can see ample, if less obvious, evidence of quality construction. All fibreglass work, even on the prototype, was top-shelf, thanks in part to premium polyester resins that bond the unidirectional biaxial fibreglass into a monolith.

Stitched unidirectional glass fibre provides three distinct advantages. First, it is stronger than the traditional woven roving materials, since there is no crossover weave pattern to cause potential shear and stress points under a load. Second, the likelihood of “print-through” is reduced thanks to the more uniform texture. The typical bumpy profile of the woven roving fibreglass is the major cause for this malady and is exacerbated by the hotter gelation temperatures caused by many substandard or general-purpose resins.

Third, unidirectional fibreglass materials trap less resin than their woven-roving counterparts, yielding a superior glass-to-resin ratio. The inconsistent geometry and loose weave of woven roving attract resin like a sponge, thus making for a heavier boat with less strength per kilogram. The mBoat’ boats fibreglass structure is stiffened by a plywood box-beam stringer system, which is foam-filled to provide basic flotation, plus thermal and sound insulation. The deck is then bonded to this stringer system with a chemical adhesive and stainless steel screws to form a solid one-piece structure.

Powerboats for sale – mBoat fleet

This is a very interesting range of motorboats, all of which are built with the very latest, and most sophisticated techniques used by the boat builder. To quote the literature, they are ‘designed for a luxurious (with flybridge) and powerboating experience, with an ultra-lightweight hull design for optimum performance – and sustainably produced with vacuum infused composite hybrid construction.

It’s interesting to contemplate the potential of these crafts, as whilst they can be ordered with conventional motor outboards, dearly most interest is being shown in the electric, Mercury / Yamaha outboard powered models because these are the engines these crafts were literally designed around. Mercury and Yamaha are distributed in Europe by dealers and enjoy a substantial international reputation. Being linked to a highly regarded Polish boatbuilder is very clever for both as interest in motor yachts and houseboats is an all-time high.
